As im working out my points for my second part of 3 part character study I realized something interesting. My earlier post about Beth I realized I only mentioned Daryl once or twice, or at least something like that. But as im working out the one about Carol on my head I realized that he will get mentioned much more frequently.
I also did a colossal post about Daryl on LJ and in in it Carol got mentioned frequently, along with Rick and Merle. Beth was barely mentioned at all. And it was not about shipping or anything, it was strictly about Daryl. But I found it impossible to not mention Carol frequently. And I realized it was because they were so entwined in their respective storylines.
Even in articles about the characters, or in interviews, etc this happens. It simply amazes me how connected they are on the show. Everyone I talked about the show, even if they dont ship tat all said that when Rick kicked Carol out, ‘Daryls gonna be pissed’ Their connection so well understood in the fandom its crazy.
And this did not happen in the comic book, Carol was long dead by this point and Daryl didnt exist. This purely the invention of the show itself. A connection was made when characters/actor develop and unexpected chemistry with eachothejr, that may not have been planned by the show creators, but nonetheless is amazing and catches fire. And to me the best kinds are the ones that are unplanned and fully organic like that.
Its why I cannot wait see them onscreen together again. They are unexpected, unusual, undefinable and so refreshing to watch. Melissa and Norman are fine actors who created amazing with a beautiful connection that I cant wait to see more of. Their separation, individual journeys and reunion is extremely compelling.
One of the many reasons Walking Dead is one of my favorite shows are the characters and theirs is just one example.
